Description

Uppingstone House is an early 18th-century house located on the south side of The High Street in Ravensthorpe. Originally known as Hazelmere, it is constructed of squared coursed lias stone with a plain-tile roof. The house was originally planned around a three-unit layout. It is two storeys high with an attic, and features a five-window front with casement windows incorporating glazing bars, each with a stone lintel and keyblock. The keyblock to the right of centre on the ground floor is larger than the others. The original central doorway has been replaced with a window. A string course at first-floor level connects the heads of the ground-floor keyblocks. The house has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. A large brick stack is centrally positioned, with further brick stacks at the ends of the building. The rear elevation is similar, with a 20th-century extension incorporating a reset fire insurance plaque and a 20th-century door. The interior contains chamfered ceiling beams, two open fireplaces with bressumers, and a dogleg staircase.
