Description

This is an 18th-century cottage located on Daventry Road in Barby. The original building is constructed from coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, with some brick patching, and has a slate roof. Brick stacks are positioned on either side. The cottage is two storeys high and originally had two bays. The central doorway is sheltered by a 19th-century gabled timber porch, encompassing a five-panel, half-glazed door with a wooden lintel. There are three-light casement windows with wooden lintels on either side of the door, and similar two-light windows to the first floor. The right gable end has a stone coped gable, while the left has lead coping. An 18th- and 19th-century extension extends to the right, built from coursed limestone rubble and brick with a slate roof. This extension is two storeys high and has two bays, each with three-light casement windows and wooden lintels. Inside the original cottage, there are stop-chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace that was altered in the 19th century. The extension features an early 19th-century brick open fireplace with a bread oven.
