Description
Laws Chapel is a building that was originally a house and has since been converted into a chapel, now serving as an outbuilding. It dates from the 18th century and early 19th century. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone and brick, featuring an ashlar facade and a Collyweston slate roof. It was originally designed as a single-unit plan and stands two storeys tall.
The main front consists of three bays, with the center bay slightly projecting forward. This bay contains an arch-headed doorway, which is now blocked, along with flanking arch-headed windows that are also blocked. The first floor has a square-headed window in the center, which is likewise blocked. The building has a plinth and a raised band between the floors, with a pediment over the center bay and a moulded stone cornice with an upstand over the flanking bays. The roof is hipped.
On the left elevation, there is a three-window range of 19th-century sash and casement windows beneath wooden lintels. To the right, there is a door with one fielded panel, and to the left, a 20th-century plank door, both also under wooden lintels. An eaves dormer with a leaded casement window is located to the left. There is an ashlar gable parapet between the center and left bays, along with a stone stack at the ridge. The bay on the left is partially brick and of a different build. This building is linked to No. 4 Bridge Street. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to contain a fireplace with a bolection moulded surround and an 18th-century staircase.
