Description

The dovecote, located approximately 20 meters northwest of Number 57 (Prebendal Manor House), along with its attached walls, outbuilding, and a group of foundations, is a notable structure. The walls are likely medieval, while the dovecote itself dates from the 16th and 18th centuries. It is built from squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof with a rectangular plan. The dovecote has a central doorway with a wooden lintel and a narrow window opening just below the eaves, as well as a later window opening on the left side. The roof is hipped with gablets, added in the 18th century. Inside, there are 576 nesting boxes arranged in 15 tiers. The walls flanking the dovecote are made of squared coursed and banded limestone, showing signs of a gateway that aligns with the position of the later dovecote. An attached outbuilding, used as an earth closet, contains a two-seater arrangement. The group of foundations nearby represents the medieval remains of a solar that was part of Number 57 (Prebendal Manor House).
