Description

NASSINGTON CHURCH STREET TL0696 (South side) 16/179 Dovecote approx. 20m NW of 23/05/67 No.57 (Prebendal Manor House) and attached walls, outbuilding and group of foundations (Formerly listed as Dovecote) GV II Dovecote, and attached walls outbuilding and group of foundations. Walls probably medieval, dovecote probably C16 and C18. Dovecote is squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Rectangular plan. Central doorway under wood lintel and narrow window opening, under eaves, above. Later window opening in elevation to left. C18 hipped roof with gablets. Interior: 576 nesting boxes in 15 tiers. Walls to left and right of dovecote are squared coursed and banded limestone with evidence of a gateway corresponding with the position of the later dovecote. Attached outbuilding used as a earth closet has a 2 seater internal arrangement. Group of attached foundations are medieval remains of solar which formed part of No.57 (Prebendal Manor House) (q.v.).
