Description
37 Church Street is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone lias and brick, topped with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally designed with a two-unit plan and an entrance hall, it has since been modified into three units.
The house stands two storeys high with an attic. The main facade features a four-window arrangement of alternating 19th-century casement and sash windows on the first floor, all set beneath wooden lintels. On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows with 19th-century casements and slate roofs, along with a 20th-century bow window to the far left. To the right of the center, there is a six-panel door, also beneath a wooden lintel. The roof includes a pair of hipped dormers with 19th-century casement windows. Brick stacks are located at the ridge and on the end gables. The right gable has a reset 17th-century, two-light stone mullion window that is now blocked. A lean-to on the far left, likely added in the mid-19th century, features a brick gable end.
The interior has not been inspected, but it has been noted that the room to the left of the entrance contains an open fireplace and spine beams.
