Description

The Weekley War Memorial is located on a green south of the Grade I-listed church of St Mary and is opposite the Grade II*-listed Montagu Hospital, which dates from 1611. The memorial features a 3-meter high limestone cross with a Latin cross-head on a tapering, square shaft that rises from a square plinth. The front face of the plinth is inscribed in raised lettering with the words "TO KEEP IN MIND THE GREAT WAR & THOSE FROM THIS PLACE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES 1914 - 1919," while the rear face reads "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." The names of the fallen are listed on the other two faces of the plinth, which itself stands on a two-stepped octagonal base.
