Description

The Old Vicarage is a vicarage, now functioning as an old people's home, built in 1873 by Sir Arthur Blomfield. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and features plain tile roofs with coped gables and decorative ridge cresting, along with moulded stone ridge stacks. The building is designed in the Tudor style and consists of two storeys and an attic, with two parallel ranges and a cross-wing to the left.

The south front showcases a projecting full-height porch that has a board door set within a moulded Tudor arched surround, topped with a hood mould. This porch is flanked by a 2-light and a 3-light mullioned and transomed window with a cornice above, and features a coped gable with kneelers and finials. To the left of the porch is a tall mullioned and transomed stair window, while to the right, there are three bays displaying a variety of picturesque windows with moulded stone surrounds, including larger mullioned and transomed windows. The windows have plate casements.

The cross-wing to the left includes a full-width canted bay at ground floor level, supported by large traceried corbels at the angles, which carry a coped gable with kneelers and finials. The first and attic floors feature 3-light mullioned and transomed windows with cornices. The rear range projects slightly to the right, and a timber porch is located in the angle. The details on the rear are similar but plainer. The interior has not been inspected.
