Description
Closes Villas consists of three houses built in the mid-18th century and 19th century, with datestones indicating additions of porches in 1896 and 1903. The houses are constructed of squared coursed limestone, with some parts rendered, and feature Collyweston slate roofs. Originally designed with one and two-unit plans, they are single-storey with attics. Nos. 2 and 3 form a three-window range with 19th-century casement windows beneath wooden lintels. There are two plank doors situated between the windows, each with elaborate wooden porches that are dated 1913. The attic includes five eaves dormers with casement windows, and there are brick and stone chimneys at the ridge and ends. No. 1, which is likely a 19th-century addition, has a similar two-window range on the right side and features a wooden porch dated 1896. The interior has not been inspected, but it is likely that Nos. 2 and 3 still contain remnants of open fireplaces.
