Description
Oldens consists of two houses built in the early 18th century. They are constructed from coursed and random rubble limestone, with ashlar and brick chimneys, and feature a stone slate roof. The buildings are two-storey with an attic, and there is a single-storey section with an attic at the south end, along with a rear wing to No 1.
The front of the houses has scattered timber casements; No 1 has late 19th or 20th-century windows, while No 2 retains its original windows with heavy chamfered mullioned frames, all featuring timber lintels. Each house has a doorway with a timber lintel on the right side, with No 1 having a rendered gabled porch addition. There is a single gabled roof dormer on each house, and No 2 has an early iron casement in its dormer. Both houses have three ridge-mounted chimneys made of ashlar, with a moulded cap on No 2. There is a plank door with a small casement to the right in the lower part of No 2. The north end of the buildings features two small stair lights with timber lintels in the gable end. The interior has not been inspected. These houses were likely built as weaver's houses in connection with the mills located in the valley below.
