Description
The Pike is a former toll house, now a small detached house, built in 1825. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with ashlar dressings and an ashlar chimney, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building features a Gothick style. It is two storeys high, with a small single-storey addition to the north.
The east front has an octagonal shape facing the road, with a single 2-light mullioned casement window featuring Tudor arched heads and hoodmoulds on both floors, set within canted facets. There is a central Tudor arched doorway with a plank door and a hoodmould above it. Above the doorway, there is a Tudor arched recess with a hoodmould and a 20th-century restored panel displaying toll charges. The roof is hipped with projecting eaves.
On the north side, there is an eaves-mounted chimney with a chamfered cap and ramped base. The small lean-to addition has a plank door with a casement window to the right. The interior has not been inspected. An early 20th-century photograph shows the building in use as a shop, with the proprietor's name displayed in a panel above the doorway.
