Description

Lamb Inn Cottage is a former inn that has been converted into a detached house. It dates from the late 17th century, with early 19th century additions and alterations. The building is constructed from coursed rubble limestone, features brick chimneys, and has a concrete tile roof.

It is two stories tall. The front of the cottage shows the projecting former gable end of the 17th century section on the right, which has a single-window layout. The ground floor includes a 3-light chamfered mullioned casement, while the upper floor has a 2-light casement, both with hoodmoulds. To the left is the early 19th century addition, which has two windows; the upper floor retains original 12-pane sash windows. The ground floor on the left features a 20th-century small-paned casement with a stone lintel, and there is a doorway to the right with a 20th-century lean-to porch addition.

At the north end, there is evidence of the eaves being raised to create the current hipped roof, with the ashlar base of the chimney now incorporated into the wall and the chimney itself rebuilt in brick above the eaves. Some remnants of the original inn name can still be seen painted on the stonework. The cottage has scattered small-paned casements with timber lintels. The interior has not been inspected. It has been recorded as the Woolpack Inn since 1805.
