Description

Butterow Methodist Church is a former Primitive Methodist chapel, now a Methodist church, built in 1856. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof, and is rectangular in shape. The south front has a simple parapet with plain coping. The central doorway has 20th-century glazed doors and a 20th-century gabled porch. Flanking the doorway are round arched sash windows with glazing bars. A central oval panel in the gable displays "PRIMITIVE METHODIST / CHAPEL / 1856 / ZION", with a clock positioned below. On the east side, there are four round arched sash windows with glazing bars, set at unequal heights, with a coursed rubble plinth. The north end features a central round arched sash window with glazing bars in a parapet gabled end. The interior is simple. The church forms part of a group of buildings near The Pike.
