Description
Church Cottage and Church Gate Cottage, along with an attached outbuilding, are two dwellings that date back to the 17th century and were converted into separate homes in 1845. The buildings are constructed of squared coursed limestone and feature a Collyweston slate roof. Originally designed with a three-unit plan, they are single-storey with an attic and have a four-window range.
To the left, there is a 17th-century two-storey, five-light canted bay window with ovolo moulded stone mullions. Above this, an ashlar banded gable has moulded kneelers. The central section contains a 19th-century casement window, while the right side has two 19th-century sash windows, all set beneath shallow stone arches. The attic features two gabled eaves dormers that have 19th-century casement windows.
Between the windows, there are two 19th-century panelled doors, which are located under a shallow stone arch and a wooden lintel. The left gable has an ashlar parapet, and there are stone and ashlar stacks on the ridge and at the ends. A sundial on the gable bears the inscription, "I ray for no man." The attached outbuilding at the rear is likely from the 18th century.
