Description

Nos 18 and 20 High Street is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. The datestone indicates it was built in 1637, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. It originally had a two-unit plan with a central carriage arch. The structure is two storeys high with an attic and presents an irregular four-window range.

On the left side, there is a 17th-century five-light, two-storey, canted bay window with ovolo moulded stone mullions and a gable above that has moulded kneelers. The right side has large 19th-century casements set under wood lintels. In the attic, there is a central gabled eaves dormer that contains a 19th-century casement and a 17th-century pargetted gable with the inscribed date. A 20th-century door, located to the right of centre, is set under a flat stone arch and leads to No. 15.

To the left, there is an open cross passage under a wood lintel that was originally a carriage arch but has since been modified. The building features stone stacks at the ridge and end, and the bay to the right has been reconstructed in the 19th century. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have some 17th-century plasterwork on the first floor.
