Description
The Exeter Arms Public House is a public house located on Stamford Road in Easton on the Hill. The building features a datestone indicating it was established in 1765 by Ino. Susa/Jackson, with extensions added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone, which is now painted, and has a Collyweston slate roof.
Originally designed with a two-unit plan, the building stands two storeys high and has a two-window range of casement windows with glazing bars, all set under wooden lintels on the first floor. At the ground floor, there are a pair of late 18th or early 19th-century canted bay windows, each topped with slate roofs. The central entrance features a panelled door, also beneath a wooden lintel. Stone stacks are located at both ends of the building.
An outbuilding attached to the right now forms part of the public house. This mid-19th-century addition has a four-window range, with sash windows on the first floor and 20th-century casements on the ground floor. The interior has been altered in the 20th century. Notably, the rear wing was originally two separate dwellings.
