Description
Rock Cottage is a house located on Stamford Road in Easton on the Hill, with datestones indicating construction for the Goodwin family in 1761 and 1780, along with some 19th-century alterations. The building is made of squared coursed limestone, part-painted, and features a Collyweston slate roof. It was originally designed with a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high. The front has a two-window range of 20th-century PVC casements set beneath original wooden lintels. The central door is part-glazed and also located under a wooden lintel. There are stone stacks at each end of the house. Above the door is a datestone.
To the right, there is a single-storey, two-window range that is similar in style and was once a separate dwelling. To the left, there is a two-storey, one-window range that is likely from the 19th century, featuring a recessed entrance with a studded door and a 19th-century casement window. The upper storey of this section has a fake timber-framed appearance. The house has two rear wings; one dates from the mid-18th century, while the other has a datestone from 1780. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to contain remnants of an open fireplace.
