Description
The Old School House, located at No. 34 on High Street in Easton on the Hill, is a schoolmaster's house that has been converted into a private residence. Built around 1867, it features squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and a Collyweston slate roof, presenting an L-shaped plan over two storeys.
The elevation facing High Street includes a gabled wing that projects to the left, showcasing two single-light windows on the ground floor and a two-light stone mullion window on the first floor, all adorned with Caernarvon heads and ashlar surrounds. There is a similar two-light window in the ground floor of the right-hand bay. A plank door set in the return wall of the cross-wing features a four-centred arch-head and an ashlar surround. The ground floor windows are topped with relieving arches. The building is capped with ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, along with a central stone stack. The interior has not been inspected. This house served as the residence for the schoolmaster of the adjacent school, which is now the Easton-on-the-Hill Village Hall.
