Description
Stonycroft is a house dating from the mid 18th century, with earlier origins, and was remodeled in the mid 19th century. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone and ironstone, topped with a slate roof. The house originally had a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high. The front features a two-window range of two-light stone mullion windows with hood moulds. A central 20th-century door is set beneath a flat stone arch. To the left, there is a canted turret with a battered base and a conical roof, which includes two single-light windows with moulded stone surrounds on its front face, as well as two small two-light stone mullion windows on its left face. The right gable has an ashlar parapet, and there are stone stacks at both ends of the building. Above the door, there is a large first-floor panel with a stone surround that contains various pieces of carved masonry arranged in a random manner. The side elevation and a 20th-century extension at the rear are rendered. The interior has not been inspected. Stonycroft is included for its group value.
