Description
The cross, located approximately 30 meters south of Manor House and Dovecote House, features a medieval socket and a late 19th-century shaft and steps. It is made of limestone ashlar. The socket has chamfered corners and is set on two shallow steps, supporting a square shaft topped with a cross finial. An inscription around the base of the steps reads: "The preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." The cross has been re-sited three times in the 19th century and was moved to its current position with the addition of the shaft and steps around 1897 by Viscount Melville. It is included for its group value.
