Description

The Market Cross, located 56 meters north of the Town Hall in Higham Ferrers, is a significant structure dating from the 14th century. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone and ironstone, with limestone ashlar detailing. The cross features a conical base that has one step and an octagonal ashlar shaft adorned with ballflower decoration at the capital. An iron frame resembling tripod links supports the base and shafts. Notably, the conical base has replaced the original steps. The Market Cross is scheduled as an ancient monument and is referenced in the "Buildings of England: Northamptonshire."
