Description

PYTCHLEY ISHAM ROAD SP 87 SE (north side) 8/58 No 5 (Lodge Cottage) 9/1/80 (Formerly listed as No 3) II Former gatehouse, now a house. Late C18 with C19 and mid C20 additions. Coursed limestone rubble and ashlar with brick addition and pyramidal stone slate roof. Quoins and paired coped stone side wall stack. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Square plan with lean-to additions to south. Windows are mainly C20 glazing bar casements. East side has lean-to range to left with an off-centre glazed door and 2 casements, all with wooden lintels. To the right, a C20 stone-faced porch with a door and casement to the return angle. Above, a C20 casement to left and a 2-light sliding sash to right. West side has, to left, 2 C20 imitation sashes and above, casements, all with wooden lintels. This building was one of a pair of gatehouses to Pytchley Hall, which was demolished in 1824.
