Description

The Thatched House is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century and the 18th century, constructed of coursed rubble with ironstone dressings and a thatched roof, which was added around 1985. It features quoins and coped gables with kneelers. The house has a 19th-century off-centre brick ridge stack, along with rebuilt stone ridge and gable stacks. It is two storeys tall, plus garrets, and consists of six bays in a single range.

The south front has an off-centre flat-roofed glazed porch with beaded jambs and an 18th-century plank door, flanked by two 19th-century canted bay windows, the right one being two-storey, each containing five-light casements. To the left of the porch is a close boarded door with a wooden lintel, followed by a 20th-century three-light casement. Above the bay window, there are three three-light casements with wooden lintels. The east gable has a central casement on each floor and in the garret. The west gable features a blocked door to the left and a 20th-century casement to the right, with an eroded datestone above, possibly dating from 1676.

At the rear, there is an off-centre mid-19th-century single-storey rear wing and a long 19th-century lean-to porch to the west. Inside, there is part of a cruck truss near the centre and a single purlin principal rafter roof to the east. The early 19th-century main staircase has a ramped handrail and stick balusters, while there is a straight 18th-century stair leading to the garret. The interior also includes five plank doors and two fielded panel doors, all from the 18th century.
