Description
Brook Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century and was altered in the early 17th century, with an extension added in 1698. It is built of regularly coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. Originally designed as a three-unit plan with a cross passage, it has been modified to include four units. The building is single storey with an attic and has a four-window range of 19th-century casements under wooden lintels at both the far left and right. There are 19th-century square wooden bay windows to the left and right of the center, and two gabled eaves dormers with 19th-century casements on the left. The central entrance has a 20th-century door beneath a wooden lintel. The farmhouse features ashlar quoins and has two ashlar stacks at the ridge, along with brick stacks at the ends. The right gable includes a datestone, and the rear elevation is similar with 19th-century additions.
Inside, the drawing room to the left of the entrance has an open fireplace with a bressumer. The entrance hall and kitchen retain remnants of open fireplaces. The room farthest left of the entrance hall was originally subdivided, with mortice holes visible in the spine beam. The drawing room also features a stop-chamfered spine beam. The room on the far left has a wall post with a painted design, likely from the 17th century. The kitchen is believed to have been added in 1698, and some original roof timbers are still present.
