Description
Loxborough House is a house that was formerly a hunting box for the Dashwood family and now includes a former stable range. It dates from around 1800 and has been altered. The exterior is made of knapped flint with unknapped dressings, featuring hipped slate roofs and brick chimneys, some of which are rendered. The house has two storeys, with the central block consisting of three bays of sash windows that have unknapped flint surrounds. There are central French doors flanked by Doric columns and a fine radiating fanlight in a similar surround. A matching doorcase is located at the rear in the gable, along with altered windows. The flanking blocks are set slightly back, with the left block lower and the right block raised to the height of the central block. The former stable range includes 20th-century casements and garage doors positioned at right angles to the rear of the left bay. Inside, there is a central stone-paved hall that features a good staircase with a curved flight and a wreathed handrail. The doorcases are reeded and have small lions' heads at the corners.
