Description

A pair of houses dating from the 16th century, substantially rebuilt and extended in the late 18th and 19th centuries, with further 20th-century additions to the rear and left side. The construction is of flint with brick dressings, and the roof is tiled, with a half-hipped section to the left and a hipped section to the right. Brick chimneys are visible, one between the left bays, another of thin brick between the right bays, and a 20th-century chimney at the right end.

The houses are two storeys high and have four bays. They feature irregular paired wooden and metal casement windows, with segmental heads to the ground floor windows; a missing window is present on the first floor of the left bay. A 20th-century board door is located between the right bays, and a 20th-century lean-to porch is situated to the left of centre. 20th-century garages are set back to the left.

The interior of the central two bays retains heavy timber framing in the cross walls, including curved braces, and original close-studding in the original left gable. The ground floor of the left bay has moulded spine and cross beams, along with stop-chamfered joists. The room above features a stop-chamfered tie beam in the left wall and a chamfered arch-braced collar to the right. The bay to the right has wide, chamfered joists running along the building's axis, curved wind-braces, and stop-chamfered purlins. This building possesses group value from its contribution to the historic character of the area.
