Description

Lower Burston Farmhouse is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century, which incorporates some medieval masonry and building materials from a former 16th to 17th century house. The left half and the lower part of the right half are constructed from re-used thin bricks with some stone in the plinth. The upper right-hand bays were rebuilt in brick in the late 19th century. The house has a tiled roof and two brick chimneys, and it stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring five bays.

On the south side, there is a re-used five-light window with moulded stone mullions, now painted, located on the ground floor of the fourth bay. The other windows consist of paired or three-light barred wooden casements with segmental heads, including a staircase window in the centre bay that has a single light to the upper right. The attic features a skylight and a three-light casement in a dormer.

At the rear, there is a wing that is set at right angles, which has a carved stone angel above the door to the north and a 20th-century window to the west in moulded stone jambs. Additionally, there are further fragments of carved and moulded medieval masonry in the courtyard wall to the north. Inside, the house contains a heavily moulded 16th-century door frame. The farmhouse is located adjacent to the site of the deserted medieval village of Lower Burston.
