Description
The balustrades to the hillside walk at the rear of The Boathouse were constructed around 1900 for W.W. Astor by T. Waldo Story. These stone balustrades are designed in a Renaissance style and are part of a footpath that overlooks the River Thames. They are modeled on the balustrade from Villa Borghese and feature turned balusters along with carved eagles on the piers. There are six sections divided by piers on the west side, while the hillside side has three sections and a single pier.
