Description
The Chequers Public House and attached stable wing is an early 18th-century building located on the north side of London Road West in Amersham. It features painted brick construction and an old tile roof. The structure is two storeys high and has a tile-roofed verandah on the ground floor. There are three doors and two 2-light horizontal sliding casements on the ground floor, along with two 2-light casements on the first floor. A large brick chimney stack projects from the left-hand gable.
To the left, there is a lean-to addition that connects to a modern lean-to at the front of the stable wing. The stable wing, also from the 18th century, is built of flint with brick dressings and has an old tile roof with dentil brick eaves. It is two storeys tall, featuring a central door with a loft entrance above that has been changed to a window, and two flanking 2-light casements.
