Description
Norden House is a house, surgery, and service wing built in 1891 by Ernest Newton for Dr. Vaizey. The building features red brick in English bond on the ground floor and tile hanging on the first floor, topped with a hipped tile roof and brick chimneys. It is two storeys high with an attic and consists of four bays, with the right bay being gabled and projecting. The windows are barred wooden casements, with an irregular three-light arrangement on the ground floor and a four-light arrangement on the first floor, along with a two-light window in the second bay. There is a dormer on the left side with paired casements and a cornice top. The entry to the surgery, located in the third bay, has a half-glazed door with a flat wooden hood supported by shaped brackets, and a barred window to the left. The service wing to the left includes a garage and former stables, creating a small courtyard with the house. The right side of the house has three bays with canted bay windows flanking a central half-glazed door that has a similar hood. There is a four-light casement window to the upper left and a two-light window above the door. This building is notable as an early work of Ernest Newton.
