Description

The Master’s House is part of the former Winslow Hospital, originally a workhouse, built in 1835 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. It is constructed of red brick with rendered bands at the impost level of the ground floor openings and the cill of the first floor. The building has off-set brick eaves and a hipped slate roof with brick stacks. The south front has five bays, with three bays forming a canted projection in the centre. It has barred sash windows with gauged brick heads on the ground and first floors; the ground floor windows have semi-circular arched tops incorporating radiating glazing bars within slightly recessed arches of gauged brick. A similar arch features above the central double doors and fanlight. The second floor windows are 20th-century paired metal casements.
