Description
Nos. 11, 13, and 15 on Station Road are a row of three houses, originally four cottages, dated 1861 on a central stone plaque featuring Rothschild mottoes. Designed by George Devey, the houses are constructed of red brick with blue and yellow diaper patterns. The left bay has an upper storey of whitewashed roughcast that jetties out over the front on brackets, adorned with ornamental tile-hanging on the gable. The other bays feature a first-floor brick band-course, with the right bay showcasing a half-timbered gable and the second bay having a large dormer with a similar eaves-line. The roofs are tiled with dentil bargeboards and there are three brick chimneys, with the outer ones having diagonal flanking shafts. The design is picturesquely asymmetrical, with the building rising to 1½ to 2 storeys and comprising four bays. The left bay projects while the right bay is slightly advanced. The windows are barred wooden casements, mostly three-light, with some lights lacking glazing bars. The ground floor windows have shallow triangular relieving arches. The third bay includes a hipped eaves-line dormer with 20th-century casements and a single light in a blocked doorway. There is a gabled porch on the left side, a lean-to porch between the left bays, both featuring board doors, and a later gabled brick porch on the right side.
