Description
10, 11, and 12 Recreation Ground are three cottages dated H de R 1876 on plaques. The cottages feature a red brick ground floor, whitewashed render, and half-timbering on the jettied first floor. They have a hipped tile roof with some fishscale patterning and symmetrical rebuilt brick chimneys. The buildings are two storeys tall and consist of three bays with narrow flanking porches. The outer bays are gabled and slightly project, featuring canted bay windows on the ground floor and 3-light wooden casements above. The date plaques are accompanied by flanking herringbone panels below the upper windows. The centre bay includes a 3-light transomed casement to the left of a half-glazed door, both with cambered heads, and a 20th-century 4-light eaves-breaking casement on the first floor. The porches have single lights at the front and side entries. These cottages are similar to Nos 1, 2, and 3 and are part of a group of picturesque estate cottages built for Hannah de Rothschild, influenced by the work of George Devey at Ascott.
