Description

The Old Bakehouse is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features moulded eaves with a band of vitreous brick below and a plinth. The right gable and rear wing are finished in chequer brick, displaying a diaper pattern at the top of the gable. The roof is made of old tiles and has flanking brick chimneys. The building is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. The windows are leaded casements, with three-light windows flanking two-light windows. Hipped dormers are present, featuring similar two-light casements and moulded cornices. On the right side, there is a six-panelled door and a small casement in the gable end, along with one bay of four-light leaded windows and a similar two-light window above a boarded door with a segmental head to the right. A Royal Exchange fire insurance plaque is located at the centre front. Inside, there is a large fireplace in the front right-hand room, which includes a cast iron fireback dated 1608, likely from an older house.
