Description
Braeside is a house dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-to-late 19th century. It is constructed of painted brick, with the left gable clad in tile hanging, and a rear elevation using a pattern of chequered red and grey brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The house is double depth, with two storeys, attics, and a cellar. A brick plinth runs along the base, and a finely-dentilled wooden eaves cornice runs along the top. The roof is gabled and incorporates a brick gable-end stack on the right side and in front of the roof slope. The windows are arranged irregularly, with three four-pane sashes in open boxes. The ground-floor windows have segmental heads. The front door consists of four fielded panels and two upper panels, set within a panelled surround. It is protected by an outer architrave with rusticated pilasters, moulded bases, plain tops, and a flat bracketed hood, leading up four steps to the left end. A short rear return wing is positioned to the left, featuring a hipped roof covered with plain tiles. Internally, panelled partitions divide the ranges on both floors, and extend to the rear on the right side. A 19th-century fireplace grate is present, along with panelled doors.
