Description
Nos. 3 and 5 on The Green are a pair of small houses. No. 3 is a late 18th century remodelling of an earlier building, while No. 5 is an early 19th century extension to the right. The houses are constructed of chequer brick, featuring a flush band course of blue brick at the first floor level. No. 3 has moulded brick eaves, a rubble stone rear, and a rendered gable, while No. 5 has dentilled brick eaves. Both houses have a slate roof with brick stacks located at the gables and between the right-hand bays. They are two storeys tall with an attic and consist of three bays.
The 19th century windows are three-light barred wooden casements, with those on the ground floor having segmental heads. No. 3 features a notable early 19th century three-panel door situated between the left-hand bays, which is framed by a wooden surround with fluted pilaster strips and a hood supported by cut brackets above a shaped frieze panel. No. 5 has a board door with a segmental head and a lean-to to the right that includes a similar casement. There are some leaded windows at the rear, including a 17th to 18th century two-light oak mullion window. An attic window is present in the left gable.
