Description
The Poplars is a house dating from the late 18th century, constructed of red brick and featuring a plat band, a moulded wooden eaves cornice, and a hipped old tile roof that is half hipped to the left. It has an end stack to the left and a stack on the ridge that is off centre to the right. There are central and right-hand hipped dormers, both fitted with leaded casements. Originally L-shaped, the building was altered in the 19th century to form a square. The house is two storeys high with four bays, featuring glazing bar sashes with exposed wooden boxes. The early 20th century ground floor includes rectangular bay windows with hipped tile roofs in each end bay. There is a blocked doorway in the third bay from the left, with current entrances located at the right-hand side and to the rear. Early 19th century lead rainwater pipes and heads are present on both end walls. Inside, there are various chamfered beams that may have come from an earlier house, along with 18th century panelling found in many rooms.
