Description

The Bourbon Tower is a cylindrical tower made of ironstone, built around 1741, likely designed by architect James Gibbs. It features small round-arched windows and a machicolated parapet, topped with an octagonal turret that replaces the original conical roof. Originally known as the Keepers Lodge, it was altered and renamed to commemorate a visit by the exiled Louis XVIII in 1808. The ramparts surrounding the tower were dated to 1814.
