Description
Broadway Tower is a folly built in 1798 by James Wyatt for Lord Coventry. Constructed from limestone ashlar, the tower features three round corner turrets connected by two-bay canted sides. It stands four storeys tall, with a battered lower storey and embattled parapets, while the turrets rise above the side walls. The turrets are adorned with narrow round-headed lights that have stone surrounds. The first and second floor windows are round-headed, and the third floor has round openings. The second floor windows are complemented by balconies with intersecting arches. A round-headed doorway is located on the south side. Between 1822 and 1862, the tower was used by Sir Thomas Phillips as a private printing press, and it was later leased by Camel Price, an Oxford tutor. Notable visitors to the Tower included Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris.
