Description
Dor Knap is a house formed from an early 18th century row of two larger central cottages and two smaller end cottages, with early 20th century alterations and additions. The building features coursed rubble with some stone dressings, and has plain tile and stone slate roofs. Each unit has stone coped gables, with a coped end gable on the southern unit. There are four stone stacks with moulded cornices and one brick stack. The house is two storeys high with attics and includes single-storey early 20th century additions.
A gabled single-storey wing projects from the north end of the row, forming the north side of a small entrance forecourt. The entrance doorway is located at the north end of a lean-to extension added to the west side of the larger northern unit. In front of the southern units, there is a partially walled service yard. The early 20th century north wing, designed to contain a large drawing room, has a gable-end stack with an oval window to the right and a large two-light stone mullioned window with an upper transom and rectangular pane leaded lights to the left. There are similar four-light mullion and transom windows at either end of the north wall of the wing.
To the right of the vertical boarded entrance door, which has diamond pane leaded glazing, there are two sets of four-light mullioned windows. On the first floor, above the lean-to, there is a three-light mullioned window on the left and a three-light casement roof dormer with bars on the right. The larger southern unit has three casement windows with glazing bars on the first floor, along with a large glazed entrance porch to the left. The rear walls of the row feature irregular casement fenestration, partial rebuilding in concrete block, and two roof dormers. The original planning of the interior has been altered by 20th century modifications.
