Description
Mill Hey is a house, likely dating from the mid-18th century, with earlier remains from the 17th century, and additions from the mid-19th century, along with alterations from the early 20th century. The house is constructed of brick and limestone, with roofs of stone slate and Welsh slate. The east front is of brick, featuring stone quoins and dressings, and is two storeys high with three bays. The windows are rebated and chamfered. The ground floor features canted bay windows with four lights and transoms. The first floor has cross windows. A moulded surround with a Tudor arch frames the doorway. Gable chimneys are present. The south gable wall of this range has a rusticated stone window lintel in the style of the 18th century. A wider parallel range of stone is located at the rear. The north gable wall of the rear range has a window with flat-faced mullions. The attic window in the south gable wall has round heads to the lights. On the west side are mullioned windows that appear to be early-20th-century restorations. The interior was not accessible when surveyed in January 1987.
