Description
This is a range of properties at 11, 15, 17, 19 and 21 Broadway, dating from the 16th century or possibly earlier. The original timber-frame structure was reclad in brick during the 18th century, with further alterations made in the early 19th century and subsequent periods. Number 11 features red and grey brickwork, while numbers 15 to 21 have a painted and rendered facade. The building has an old tile roof and a wooden eaves band.
The facade of number 11 has a two-light casement window on the first floor, along with a modern shop bow window at ground level. Numbers 15 to 21 feature three three-light casement windows to the first floor, one ground floor window, and a modern shop front with a bow window and corniced canopy supported by slender, capped posts. The doorway to number 21 is topped by a hood supported on shaped brackets.
The east gable wall retains exposed timber framing. A small gabled wing at the rear is timber-framed with brick infill. More recent additions include a modern, gabled, two-storey brick wing to numbers 17 and 19, and a timber-framed gable to numbers 11 and 15.
