Description
The ruins of the old Church of St Mary Magdalen are located 650 meters west of Mill Farm. This parish church dates back to the early 13th century and was abandoned in 1838 when a new church was built in the village. The structure is made of flint with stone dressings and was situated on the southernmost edge of the parish, near the Buckinghamshire border. Originally designed in the shape of a Greek cross, it was likely constructed around 1230. After its abandonment, the church fell into ruins, but a significant portion remained standing as late as 1910. Today, only a section of flint rubble walling can be found, concealed within a coppice on the banks of the River Chess. The site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
