Description

The Old School is a former school building dating from around 1870, likely designed by G.E. Street. It is constructed of red brick featuring stripes and diamond patterns of blue brick, along with stone plinth moulding, a sill course, and window detailing. The building has buttresses, chimneys, and a bell-tower, all with sloping off-set stone sides. The roof is tiled and adorned with ornamental bands of fishscale tiles and cusped bargeboards.

The structure is L-shaped with a lobby and bell-tower at the angle, consisting of one storey and two bays facing the road. The left bay is gabled and projects forward, flanked by buttresses and featuring a three-light plate tracery window with incised floral decoration. Above the apex of the gable is a cusped roundel, and both windows are accented with flanking stone impost bands and gauged brick surrounds. The gables of the rear cross wing have a similar design but each contains a pair of two-light windows. The right bay includes a chimney and a lean-to lobby with a quatrefoil window to the left and a bell-tower above an arched door to the right. The bell-tower features a lancet window, a stone broach leading to an octagonal wooden bell-cote, and a tall slated spirelet topped with a cast iron finial.
