Description

Holly Cottage and Ravenstone Cottage are a pair of small houses dating from the late 16th to 17th century, with some alterations. The buildings feature a timber frame, with the left half having whitewashed render infill and planking over the frame, while the right half has whitewashed brick infill. They have a half-hipped thatch roof with a central rendered chimney and a later chimney on the left side. The cottages are 1½ storeys tall and consist of four irregular bays. Ravenstone Cottage, on the right, is slightly lower and narrower than Holly Cottage.

Ravenstone Cottage has three-light barred wooden casements flanking a central boarded door, all with segmental heads, and a barred horizontal sliding sash window in thatch to the right. There is a 20th-century lean-to in the center of the building with a tiled roof, barred wooden casements, and a 20th-century door leading to Holly Cottage. This door features a small gable above it. Holly Cottage also has two casements in thatch; the left one is a 20th-century addition, while the right is an old three-light leaded casement. The interior of Ravenstone Cottage includes massive chamfered spine beams and stop-chamfered joists in the right-hand room.
