Description

Bishopstone Farmhouse and Cottage is a house, now subdivided, dating from the 18th century, possibly incorporating some fabric from the 17th century. It is constructed of red brick with blue headers and features an old tiled roof in bands. The building has central and right-hand brick chimneys, a flat-topped dormer on the right, and a moulded brick eaves cornice. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a moulded plinth. The right-hand gabled wing, which is now a separate cottage, displays unusual brick bonding and dentil brick floor bands.

On the ground floor, there are two casements with flat gauged arches, while the first floor and attic have a modern three-light casement. The left-hand flank wall features an upper two-light mullioned and transomed window with old leaded glazing and a blocked doorway below. The main elevation on the left has a central four-panel door set in a heavy frame, topped by an ogee metal canopy supported by wrought iron. This is accessed by three stone steps and flanked by modern casements with original cambered arches that were once part of triple sashes. The first floor has two five-pane wide sashes and a blank recessed panel in the centre above the door.

Additionally, there is a small 19th-century brick granary raised on brick arches, featuring an old tiled roof and dentil brick eaves, which is attached to a single-storey wing on the left side. The right-hand end has a one-storey wing with a door and one two-light casement. At the rear, there is an outshot with a catslide roof and a modern extension.
