Description

The Grange is a house with an 18th-century front, although it was altered and built on the site of an older building, likely dating from the 17th century. The main part of the house is constructed of chequer pattern brick, which was formerly colourwashed, and has an old tile roof with a hipped end and two gabled dormers. A large brick chimney featuring black brick quoins, shafts, and a moulded wooden cornice is prominent.

The building is two storeys and an attic, with a first-floor band. The central portion has two three-light casement windows on the ground floor, each with a brick arch and old leaded glazing. A pair of half-glazed double doors are accessed under a pediment hood supported by cut brackets. Above the door is a four-light mullioned and transomed casement window, with a two-light window above. A one-bay brick extension is located on the left, and a lower, rendered extension is on the right, incorporating a doorway with a tall six-panel door and a radiating and wreathed lead fan-light within a panelled reveal. A Doric portico, composed of two columns, two pilasters, and an entablature with a dentil cornice, stands before the doorway. A large modern canted bay window is positioned on the right-hand side.

The flank elevation displays two blank arches containing triple sash windows with panelled mullions and cornices. The garden elevation includes a canted bay on the left with three double-wing sash windows; the central window has panels below the cill.

Inside, the front right-hand room contains a fine late 18th-century carved wooden chimney piece, a moulded plaster cornice, and panelled doors.
