Description
This building, located approximately 75 metres south of the junction with the road to Keld, is a former inn that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high and features three bays. It has an ashlar plinth and rusticated ashlar quoins, with ashlar surrounds framing the openings. The central entrance consists of a 20th-century panelled door set within a four-centred-arched surround. The ground floor has four-pane sash windows with dripmoulds, and there is a sill band at the first floor level. The roof is adorned with shaped kneelers and ashlar copings, and there are ashlar end stacks. The rear elevation includes windows with ashlar surrounds, including a round-arched landing window with decorative glazing bars. This building was formerly known as the Cat Hole Inn, named after the nearby Cat Hole waterfall, and it was also referred to as the Butt House Inn.
