Description
Renard Close Laithe, located 450 meters southwest of Kilnsey village, is a field barn dating from 1661 with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with stone dressings and features a stone slate roof in a T-plan layout. The building has quoins and a single loft opening on the upper floor of the north-east gable wall. The north-west front includes a single blocked doorway with a chamfered ashlar surround and a lintel inscribed "GW 1661". The south-west gable front features a central window flanked by single doorways, both with chamfered ashlar surrounds, and an owl hole in the gable apex. The south-east front has a doorway with a chamfered ashlar surround and a loft opening to the left. This barn is a well-preserved example of a mid-17th century vernacular field barn.
