Description
Conistone Bridge over the River Wharfe is a bridge built in the late 18th century, with a 19th-century extension to the east. It is constructed of ashlar and measures approximately 90 metres in length. The original structure features a central wide segmental arch, flanked by smaller similar arches that span the river, along with revetment walls and flood arches beyond. The bridge has pointed cutwaters on either side of the central arch, with pilasters above, and additional pilasters flanking the side and flood arches. These elements are supported by a deep projecting band at road level, leading to an oversailing ridged parapet coping. The eastern extension includes two flood arches with pointed cutwaters, flanking rusticated pilasters, and incised parapet and buttress copings.
