Description
Maypole Cottage, formerly known as Conistone Post Office, is a house that now operates as a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of limestone rubble with gritstone dressings, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features three bays with quoins. To the left of the second bay, there is a half-glazed door with quoined jambs and a lintel. The first and second bays have 3-light flat-faced mullioned windows with casements on both the ground and first floors, while the third bay has an inserted 3-light mullion window with a crude stone lintel on the ground floor. The roof has shaped kneelers and gable copings, with a large corniced ashlar stack on the left and a smaller stack situated between the second and third bays. The house has also been referred to as Mallinson's Cottage.
